Mahira Khan dressed in Generation’s Madame Gaitri collection.
It was a scorching summer afternoon, which many of us had been planning to spend sprawled out on
our beds indoors, praying for mercy from the next oncoming bout of load shedding, when in a matter of
mere seconds our screens and our newsfeeds were infiltrated.
She was a vision, perfection from the tip of her toes to the parting line of her hair, Mahira Khan had just
stepped out of her hotel for the very first day of promotions for her upcoming film, dressed in a dreamy
outfit from Generation FLO’s ‘Madame Gaitri’ collection, designed in admiration of the timeless
elegance and style of Jaipur’s Maharani Gayatri Devi, so befitting for Mahira who with her restrained
and classic choice of attire has carved out a reputation of a style icon no less than a modern day Gayatri.
Portrait of the late Maharani Gayatri Devi
Back in the day, when Saris were woven in stiff, structural fabrics the Maharani of Jaipur was hailed as
the inventor of the soft draped look, commissioning her Saris to be made in pastel hues of chiffons and
fluid transparent silks imported from France in the 1940s.
Perhaps Mahira’s selection of a purely cotton ensemble for an occasion that others wouldn’t associate
with the opposite being true for current times, to choose anything other than silks or similar lustrous
fashion fabrics for something like the first official look for your film promotions, reflects upon a similar
kind of inventive and risk taking sense of style the Maharani was known for.
For Mahira, It was fresh, breezy and breathable, a sleeveless tunic exquisitely embellished upon with
rich hand blocked patterns layered with a delicate muslin lining creating a tiered effect Paired to utter
perfection with a pearl white crushed cotton gharara with a subtle self-print for added depth…it was a
sight for sore eyes!
Completing the look with chunky gold bangles, minimal earrings and a refreshingly bare face crowned
with her natural waves, MK just won our hearts yet another time!
