Have you ever wished you were born in a different era?
We found ourselves in a similar conundrum when we chanced upon an article titled the ‘swinging seventies’ by Nadeem F. Paracha published in Dawn. It spoke of a time when our young country was a charged cultural melting pot with a burgeoning shrine culture, an exotic holiday locale for the hippies of the west, a prime attraction being Karachi’s infamous nightlife of course.
An ode to the time ruled by colour, art, nonchalance and a youthful abandon that immortalized the era, Ming presents “Starlite Karachi”
Follow our starlet, Abeera as she takes a sip out of the hippy tea and is teleported into the bygone era, captured by the talented Mahoor Jamal, as she explores a typical 70s house party which she ended up being ‘fashionably’ late for.
A kaleidoscope of the glitz and glam of disco, submerged into the deep rooted textile heritage of Sindh, the collection is an indulgent re-imagination of the swinging seventies that you’ll definitely want a bite out of.
Rich dupions and dull satin have been laden with block prints, mirror work, sequins and myriad prints amalgamating elements of ajrak with psychedelic disco imagery.
Choose from a selection of retro styled lehnga cholis, an effervescent sari, a glittering dupatta and a number of eclectic matching separates and tops that will have you grooving to the beats of yore.
The collection is now available online and in the following stores:
1. Dolmen City, Karachi
2. Zamzama, Karachi
3. Gulberg, Lahore
4. F7, Islamabad
