I was sixteen when I read my first poetry book, a collection of poems by Edna St. Vincent Millay and Rumi, and fell in love. I don’t remember when I started writing it, it just happened and when it happened, I felt as if I had been writing it for a really long time.

Mahnoor published her first collection of short poems through amazon, it did better than she had expected. She is currently working on her second collection which is almost coming to an end. As she explains its more personal and vulnerable than her previous collection. She doesn’t prefer it to be read widely; but would rather want to be read by those who would feel it deeply. “My second collection is almost done, and I can’t wait to share it, I believe it’s more personal and vulnerable than my previous collection”.

My amma, my naani,

My dost, my bhannji,

Frolicking about

In their embroidered individuality,

Unleashing their inner gypsy.

 

Your feel against my skin

Soft linen—

Crisp by every wear

A goddess I feel like

Looked up by everyone, everywhere—

 

For generations now

And generations to come,

Weave them with love

Smearing crimson

Across our chests—

Because that is from where

Our most treasured—

Stories appear.
