How did you get into fitness?

A few years ago I was feeling very lost, and honestly sick of the everyday routine here. The gyms were so expensive and work out classes always seemed to be either too pricy or not something I personally would want to do, so I decided to sign up for a training program and then branch out on my own. Soon I found myself anew in ways I wasn’t expecting, I was fit and gaining muscle, probably stopped slouching for the first time in my life. There’s a real tangible confidence that comes from having ownership over your body and pushing yourself to truly embrace your strength. My confidence seemed to grow as I saw what I could do as long as I tried, as corny as it sounds.

I am notorious for singing the wrong lyrics to songs, it annoys everyone a great deal! When I decided to try for Auratnaak I did not really know what I was going to do, as I have been told repeatedly I am NOT funny, but I knew I wanted to give it a try. One day while I was brainstorming my sister said to me why can’t you do musical comedy? I am a trained classical singer and I enjoy performance so I figured why not, I sing the lyrics my way anyways! I enjoyed singing my own version to songs.

I love to express myself through clothes. Actually one of the toughest parts about living here is that I couldn’t just go out and buy clothes that I felt were my style, it took me time. Similarly my style was evolving and it’s gotten to a place I feel most like myself. I would define my personal style as fun, experimental, and an expression of how I feel that day.

I like bright colours, I like sparkles but I also like a darker moment or a sleeker minimalist look – it changes, my style is diverse.

Using my thought-provoking lyrics I will break the barriers put on women in our society. Through my lyrics I want to highlight mental illness. Just because a person smiles, socializes or doesn’t reveal they are in pain doesn’t mean they aren’t battling something bigger than we understand. I want to highlight the treatment of minorities. I have written songs on the patriarchy let it be husbands, fathers and brothers, the double standards where the brother is allowed to do everything and the sister is expected to not partake. I will talk about periods cringing topics that shouldn’t be a big deal how we still hide our pads in brown paper bags because it’s seen as a dirty thing.

Do you know of a song parody that’s funnier than the one that made it to our list? ..Its by Sarah Malik. Head to our Insta stories to see how good is she?
